Plot resizing costs explored

Okay. You probably aren't aware of how badly LoA has screwed me over in housing terms (lost 1st house due to hour late payment of a few copper after they quietly brought in auctions & had just saved up enough to resize new plot when CS stealthily brought in stupid costs for plot resizing) so I've done some maths on what CS expect us to pay per unit area:
Area - Units - Extra (S) - Add unit - Avg unit
12 x 12 - 144 - 560 - 3.89 - 3.89
13 x 13 - 169 - 236 - 9.44 - 4.71
14 x 14 - 196 - 543 - 20.10 - 5.63
15 x 15 - 225 - 935 - 32.24 - 6.64
16 x 16 - 256 - 1426 - 46.00 - 7.76
17 x 17 - 289 - 2034 - 61.64 - 8.98
18 x 18 - 324 - 2775 - 79.29 - 10.29
19 x 19 - 361 - 3671 - 99.22 - 11.72
20 x 20 - 400 - 4743 - 121.62 - 13.26
21 x 21 - 441 - 6013 - 146.66 - 14.90
22 x 22 - 484 - 7506 - 174.56 - 16.66
23 x 23 - 529 - 9248 - 205.51 - 18.54
24 x 24 - 576 - 11268 - 239.74 - 20.53
25 x 25 - 625 - 13595 - 277.45 - 22.65
26 x 26 - 676 - 16262 - 318.86 - 24.88
27 x 27 - 729 - 19300 - 364.15 - 27.24

I haven't done 28, 29 & 30 because my new plot can't extend that far, but I think I've made my point - CS introduced seeds and gardening recently, so depending on your starting plot size you could be paying over 4 gold for the space to grow a vegetable. Bargain.
PS. CS this is BS

  • Did a bit more maths (yes, I'm a nerd) and based on how much gold I've made in the last year (mostly harvesting & crafting, plus 6Xing a melee) it will take me until 2026 to save up enough to place house I own. This is why I started a tamer (that plan got borked too).
Has everyone else become wealthy? Or is it that you aren't affected now you have house placed?

Let me ask you; is your plot already resized?
You honestly think I should play 1000s of hours to earn the right to have a large house? I have had 2 houses before, why do I not deserve one now? Because I didn't exploit launch vendor prices? I'm currently churning out hardened helms for 5C each. Yes, five copper. Do you have any idea how long it would take to save up 136G???
What the game desperately needs is players, and you won't keep them long if it will take them a decade to afford a house. Just increase land tax, thats the best sink
  • So which crafting skills have you GMed? And how much of your 8 plat came from that? My "bullshit argument" is that working on a self-sufficient crafter as a game choice will penalise you heavily (while helms pay 5C each, many other craftables also pay a pittance). You are basically suggesting everyone be forced to play the same way in order to afford a large house (which crafters need in order to place all the crafting furniture) in a reasonable time frame - make a melee, farm gold, buy materials in bulk and supercharge gains with bought power hour potions.
I would argue lower up-front costs and higher taxes will retain new players better - they will own property sooner giving them a "hook" and as their char advances they can afford a few more silver a week - whereas your way they can buy a small house in a matter of weeks then suffer with the rigmarole of having to clear it of lockdowns, remove it, place a slightly bigger one, deco it, save up, clear that one, place next bigger one, etc

Let me ask you again, since you seem reluctant to answer; is your plot already resized?
  • Agreed getting a small house should be cheaper. And houses in wilderness need to be cheaper.

    Update:
GMed Fabrication - Gold total now: 25

@fibrosis Ooh, they missed a trick there... just making houses in guarded zones more expensive would have been cool. I guess now we're past that point, all they can do is make houses in wilderness cheaper... HINT HINT
